We’ll Never Give Up Our Crowns, Ibadan Obas Tell Olubadan

Promoted chiefs who became Obas as beneficiaries of the traditional review in Ibadan have denied flight reports that have delivered their crowns as baits to retain their reserved seats as members of the Olubadan Council.

They have reestablished their decision to maintain and reserve the crowns they obtained legally with all the known conditions and if they ever lose them before returning to the Olubadan Palace, the Ibadan Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji must be ready to give up the title. Of Imperial Majesty, a product of the review exercise.

One of the eternal legacies of Senator Abiola Ajimobi that has led to an endless controversy is the Arestructuring / revision of the Ibadan Traditional Council, which has generated many controversies throughout Ibadan in extension to the state.

At a press conference on Thursday in the Alalubosa GRA area in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, the monarchs expressed their thoughts and dissatisfaction to journalists.

However, they said that in order to attend any other reconciliation meeting with the Olubadan, the Obas said that the Olubadan must agree with them to wear their crown of accounts and ensure that their wife cannot be present, according to the Olubadan tradition – at Council meetings.

The monarchs who said they were interpreted by the Olubadan at the last meeting convened, dissociate themselves from the media reports that they have agreed to set aside their crowns in order to gain access to the Olubadan Popoyemoja Palace.

The obas that attended the conference include, Owolabi Olakeleyin (the Ibadanland Balogun), Oba Tajudeen Ajibola (Osi Balogun), Oba Lateef Adebimpe (Ashipa Balogun), Oba Eddy Oyewole (Ashipa Olubadan), Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, (Ekerin Odanin), Oba Amidu Ajibade (Ekarun Olubadan) and Oba Kola Adegbola (Ekarun Balogun Olubadan).

Speaking on behalf of others, Oba Olakuleyin said they decided to call the conference to correct the misconception that Olubadan gave about the meeting, saying it was just a trick to trick them.

He said: “The reason we call this press conference is simply to tell them the fact of the case. On Monday, an Oba and a High Chief went to misrepresent us before Kabiyesi Olubadan of Ibadan, as we read in the media. Everything that was published was false. Our crowns of accounts remain with us. It stays with us.

“If Olubadan wants us to drop our crown of accounts, he himself should drop the title of His Imperial Majesty granted to him by the same governor who made us Obas. That they have called us to come is simply a trick. Our crowns of accounts remain with us.

“It is not just the question of the crown of accounts that caused our disagreement with Olubadan. As far as we are concerned, we, the Obas in Council, Olubadan are not ruling. His wife is the one we have pointed out from time to time.

“If you were there on Monday at the supposed meeting, you will see the woman who was even with them at the meeting and shouldn’t be like that. It shouldn’t be like that.

“The question of where we collectively agree on a subject and before returning the day postponed, everything we have agreed would have been altered and we know that Kabiyesi’s wife had been responsible for such a situation.” She was the one who decided and we have been saying that her participation goes against the tradition of the Council.
