Sultan tells Muslims to look out for new moon

The Sultan of Sokoto and the general president of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Nigeria (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has ordered Muslims across the country to seek the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah 1440 AH today. The new moon will mark the beginning of the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar.

A statement by the President, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Wali Junaidu, advised Muslims to report on the moon sighting to the nearest district or village chief to communicate with the Sultan.

“Therefore, Muslims are asked to start looking for the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah 1440 AH on August 1 and inform the nearest district or town chief to communicate with His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar III, “it reads. The statement added: “May Allah (SWT) help us in fulfilling this religious duty. Amen.”
