Shasa market shut indefinitely after attack on scavengers in Ibadan

The famous Shasha market in Ibadan, the capital of the state of Oyo, closed indefinitely, after attacks by some thugs who descended on some scavengers inside the market in the early hours of Friday.

GISTOK realized that a series of iron scavengers were in the early hours of Friday, attacked by alleged thugs in the Shasha market, Ibadan, in the Akinyele local government area of ​​the state of Oyo.

The thugs, who were also said to trade in condemned iron, attacked their counterparts whose member allegedly defecated where they kept theirs.

It is said that a member of the iron scavengers went to answer the call of nature where the condemned iron traffickers store their products.

When they saw him, the members of the condemned iron traffickers mobilized their companions and continued what they called revenge at approximately 1:00 am on Friday.

The owner of a store within the market, who preferred anonymity, told reporters that other innocent people were also injured during the attack.

The Police Commissioner in the state of Oyo, Mr. Shina Olukolu, has already visited the place together with the Area Commander in charge of the area.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, PPRO, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident, added that normalcy had been returned to the area.

Fadeyi said: “What happened in Shasha was as a result of the activities of the criminals fighting each other.

“The clash occurred because someone went to defecate, where they packed their merchandise, and this led the aggrieved to mobilize their colleagues to attack their perceived opponents.”

To ensure peace is restored, the PPRO said: “Security personnel is there now. Operation Burst, the police are there, and normalcy has been restored in place.”

When asked when the market will reopen, the PPRO stated that the Area Commander would meet with market leaders and agree to peace before the market opens.
