SERAP Talks about the DSS arrest of AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore

The Socio-Economic Rights and Responsibility Project (SERAP) has condemned the arrest of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, by men from the Department of State Services, DSS.

GISTOK had reported that Sowore, the #RevolutionNow Protests convener, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.

The politician posted a distress tweet at precisely 1:25 in the morning that says: “DSS invades Sowore.” Later, he added another tweet that could be a confirmation that his phone must have been seized while trying to give the alarm about his arrest.

Reacting, SERAP said in a statement on its official Twitter page that it called for “immediate and unconditional release” of Sowore.

The brief statement says: “SERAP strongly condemns the arbitrary arrest of opposition leader and activist @YeleSowore by SSS.

“The Nigerian authorities should release him immediately and unconditionally. The unconditional release of Sowore will be the first step to stop Nigeria’s precipitous fall in human rights. ”
