Sen. Abaribe attacks IPOB members – Ekweremadu helped secure Nnamdi Kanu’s bail

Senate minority leader Enyinnaya Abaribe on Saturday condemned the attack against former Senate Vice President Ike Ekweremadu by members of the indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in Nuremberg, Germany.

Ekweremadu was to give an opening address at the Second Annual Igbo Festival and Cultural Convention organized by Ndi-Igbo Germany in that city when a mafia, which identified itself as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), invaded the place to attack it.

In a statement signed personally by the minority leader of the Senate on Sunday, Abaribe said that Ekweremadu does not deserve such shameful treatment by IPOB members while deploying means to rescue Nnamdi Kanu.

Abaribe described the incident as completely sacrilegious and not an agitation in any way. The statement said: “Obviously, this is not the way to pay a man, a leading leader of men, an unpretentious Igbo leader.

“He has given his best, even going as far as deploying his means to organize Nnamdi Kanu’s bail, regardless of the repercussions on his political career.”

“It is unfortunate. The perpetrators of the attack must know that, like Igbo, we respect the elders and revere our leaders.

“The unjustified attack is not the character of the Igbo.

“It is very worrying and even inconceivable that the attackers choose an auspicious occasion in which our people are celebrating and exhibiting our rich culture to exhibit such improper and condemnable behavior in the name of agitation.”

“No, that was not agitation, it is not correct to think that humans will identify with such behavior.

“Yes, Nigeria is going through a horrific phase, which is a flaw that its leaders, particularly we Igbo leaders, are committing others to find a lasting solution.

“Resorting to the mafia mentality and venting the spleen of our leaders creates a vacuum that will leave our people defenseless and confused in the circumstances.”
