President Buhari gives appointment to ex-minister accused of corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari has sanctioned the arrangement of previous Minister of Commerce, Bello Maitama-Yusuf, as an individual from the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC.

He composed on Facebook, “In acknowledgment of his diligent work, strength and immovability in the advancement of APC and improvement of Jigawa State and Nigeria everywhere, the Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has encouraged the arrangement of Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).”

Maitama-Yusuf’s arrangement letter read: “As per segment 5 of the Nigerian Railway Corporation Act top. N129, LFN2004, and all forces empowering the Honorable Minister of Transportation for that sake, and ensuing upon your selection by the legislative leader of Jigawa State, I am satisfied to advise you regarding your arrangement by the Honorable Minister, as an individual from the Directors of Nigerian Railway Corporation.

“Your residency of arrangement will initiate on the date of introduction of the board and will subsist at the delight of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by Section 8 of the above-referenced Act.”

The 74-year old Maitama-Yusuf, filled in as Minister of Internal Affairs in 1978 and later as Minister of Commerce in 1982.

He filled in as representative speaking to Jigawa South-West at the National Assembly somewhere in the range of 1999 and 2007, at first on the stage of the All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP.

He later abandoned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He likewise challenged for the governorship of Jigawa State in 2007.

President Buhari had in 1983 blamed Maitama-Yusuf for defilement amid his military routine between 1983 to 1985.
