ITF reveals plans to identify Nigeria’s Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos

The Industrial Training Fund, ITF, has said it intends to unravel some Nigerians who would become the next group of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates of Microsoft and Jeff Bezos of Amazon.

Joseph Ari, the ITF Director-General disclosed while he commissioned a set of information and communications technology equipment donated to Government Technical College in Mopa, Kogi state on Tuesday.

Ari expressed his hope that the team will be used to develop the mid-level technical workforce in Nigeria.

He said: “It is with a great sense of satisfaction and high patriotism that I address you on this significant occasion of the implementation of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) equipment for the Government Technical College, Mopa , by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) together with the Employers’ Consultative Association of Nigeria (NECA) under the Technical Skills Development Project (TSDP)

“TSDP is one of ITF and NECA’s efforts to develop the mid-level technical workforce in Nigeria. The Project, which began a few years ago, has trained more than 5,000 Nigerians using around 24 training facilities and training centers of public and private institutions across the country.

Some of the facilities used by the Project include Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (PAN), Niger Dock Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Industrial Skills Training Centers in Ikeja and Kano and Ruff’ n’ Tumble, among others.

“It is worth mentioning that all the beneficiaries of this Program are employees as soon as they graduate. As part of the Project, the ITDP / NECA TSDP helps designated centers with the proper equipment and support to ensure that they implement the Project effectively by the training objectives and specifications of the ITF and NECA. Among such
The centers that have received so much support are Government Technical College, Benin, Edo State; Orozo Federal Technical College, Abuja and Government Technical College, Bukuru, State of the plateau.

“Our decision to renew (in some cases) and equip these centers, in particular, technical colleges with relevant learning equipment and aids, is based on the finding that some of them do not have the necessary equipment for effective training and learning.

In fact, when the equipment is available, it is not functional, it is obsolete and it is not synchronized with the current global pedagogy and, therefore, it cannot be expected to produce trained technical specialists in various fields of activity, which is the general objective of the TSDP.

“In light of this, we are donating ICT equipment and accessories comprising 25 sets of computers (HP desktops): Intel Pro Pentium brand; 25 support for computer furniture (tables and chairs); Printers and scanners: HP color LaserJet Pro; Photocopier, projector, support and clipboard, Panasonic generator and 25 UPS regulators.

“Others are the connectivity of Internet facilities (complete set): D links, wireless Hub connection, Wi-Fi link, air conditioning unit, stabilizers, fire extinguishers, permanent fans, repair tool kits, external disk storage and blower of Hotech energy.

“It is our expectation that with this team, Government Technical College, Mopa, begin the training of TSDP beneficiaries and their students in ICT skills.

“We also fervently hope that this modest contribution will generate a production line of computer geniuses and geeks in the mode of Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates of Microsoft and Jeff Bezos of Amazon, which has carved niches for themselves in the world of ICT.

“I will not end this speech without warning the students, who are the main beneficiaries of this Project, to make the best use of the facilities to advance their search to become professional technicians and craftsmen when they finally graduate from this university.

Let me also urge the Administration to ensure that they implement this equipment for effective teaching and learning. I urge you to make judicious and effective use of the facilities with great care and observe all necessary safety procedures. ”
