How we stopped N500bn from leakage – FG

The Federal Government has said that it has blocked the leakage of N500 billion in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDA, through the Presidential Initiative for Continuous Audit (PICA).

The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Dikwa, revealed this on Wednesday when students from the National Institute for Political and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) visited him.

According to him, if the PICA initiative were not in place, the MDA would have spent the N500bn saved by the government.

He said: “If you remember, in the last four years, this administration has implemented many policies on the ground, and I am part of the financial policies implemented by the Ministry of Finance.

“One of the fundamental achievements was to save the government by more than N500 billion of leaks and waste under my leadership in PICA.

“If the initiative were not in place, this amount of money we are talking about would have been spent by the MDA. “It was thanks to this initiative that was launched that we could save that money from treasure looters.”

According to Dikwa, the main focus of PICA was to establish internal control systems to verify the unnecessary expenditure of government revenues.

“We have also implemented many other measures, such as the Irregularity Reporting Policy.

“When we came up with the policy, we received an average of 11,000 trips monthly, but now, we barely receive 20 to 30 tips simply because people have reduced bad actions in the government.”
