Changing and repositioning the Nigeria Police Force to be increasingly powerful and effective in defending lives and properties, capturing guilty parties and for the most part improving the inward security of our Nation following our laws and worldwide accepted procedures has been one of the real strategies of this Administration.

So as to reposition the Nigeria Police Force to viably complete its statutory obligations, I have made real strides by expanding the workforce of the Nigeria Police just as improving the welfare of Police officers, since they put their lives on the bleeding edge regularly with the goal that the remainder of us may unreservedly continue ahead in security.

Notwithstanding, in completing their statutory duties, the Police should consistently act inside the ambit of the law and must not abuse the significant human privileges of Nigerians whom they have pledged to secure. Where the privileges of Nigerians are disregarded by Police Officers while releasing their capacities, the Government must address the occurrences of infringement following its human rights commitments and guarantee that such Police Officers are considered responsible for their activities.

It is an acknowledgment of our commitments under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and International Human Rights Laws, that this Administration chose to set up this Presidential Panel and guided the National Human Rights Commission to establish its enrollment so as to research the different open clamors and media reports charging human rights infringement against residents by officers of SARS.

The board was engaged in making proper proposals not only for considering Police Officers discovered needing responsible, yet additionally, on ways SARS and by augmentation, the Nigeria Police could be commonly improved.

The choice guiding the National Human Rights Commission to establish the enrollment of the Panel and to lead the pack in researching the said charges of human rights infringement, was a result of the order of the National Human Rights Commission which incorporate the advancement, insurance and implementation of human rights in Nigeria as cherished under areas 5 and 6 of the NHRC Act, 1995 (as altered).

It is additionally in acknowledgment of the way that the choices, judgments, and suggestions of the Commission are authoritative and enforceable as given under area 22 of the NHRC Act, 1995 (as altered). I am content with crafted by the Panel and thank the Panel individuals for buckling down towards the acknowledgment of the Presidential Directive.

I trust that the Report of the Panel and proposals contained in that would go far in reviewing the complaints of the complainants, guarantee responsibility concerning the Police Officers in releasing their duties and encourage the different Police changes being presented by this organization. I need to guarantee you and all Nigerians that this Administration will keep on satisfying its commitments of advancing and securing personal privileges of Nigerians, and will give the National Human Rights Commission all the help required to guarantee full execution of the suggestions contained in its Report.

Moreover, we will fortify the tasks of the Commission to upgrade its viability and capacity to determine instances of human rights infringement. This organization is aware of the job the Commission plays in guaranteeing security and solidness in the country through the goals of grievances of human rights infringement, which, whenever disregarded, could result into significant security challenges.

As you know, I have as of late endorsed the reconstitution of the Governing Council of the Commission. The names of the Council individuals will be submitted to the National Assembly for affirmation before the introduction of the Council following NHRC Act, 1995 (as altered).
