Former INEC Chairman, Jega joins political party

The former national president of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Muhammad Attahiru Jega, and other prominent Nigerians have agreed together to reposition the People’s Redemption Party, PRP.

In a statement signed by the PRP National Advertising Secretary, Abdul Gombe, he said that Professor Jega would chair the SWOT analysis committee of the party.

According to the statement, the SWOT analysis committee would critically examine the strength of the PRP, its weakness, and the opportunities available to the party, as well as threats to its existence and well-being.

He also said: “The PRP at its 62nd session of the National Executive Committee, NEC, held on June 22 in Kaduna, decided to establish 3 (three) committees to review the performance of the party in the 2019 general elections with a view to reposition the party for better performance in the face of the new challenges of Nigerian politics.

“Based on a critical analysis of this, the committee composed of some of Nigeria’s best intellectuals will recommend strategies to the party to adopt for their survival and growth.

“The three committees, according to the statement, are; The SWOT Analysis Committee, the Mobilization Committee, the Finance, and Financing Committee.

“The membership mobilization committee chaired by a person who has been in the PRP for 41 years is to examine and advise the party on the best way to increase their membership using the best methods of current electoral demographics in Nigeria.

“The finance and financing committee whose membership has business people will examine the current financial status of the PRP and the existing financing methodologies as established in the Constitution of the party and will suggest the best way to make the methodologies work, as well as new ways to raise funds to make it a financially stable party with a sustainable operation. ”

Other people who made up the three committees included, editor and chairman of Trust Newspapers, Malam Kabiru A. Yusuf, Prof. Momodu Kashim Momodu, Dr. George Kwanashie, Comrade Ayo Sando, Dr. Obi Osisiogwu and Prof. Nath Abraham.

Others were; Alhaji Sule Mohammed, Alhaji Abdul Gombe, Comrade Olajideh Wolimoh, Alhaji Musa Maigari, Reverend Emmanuel Aniebet, Mr. Malu Timothy Terzungine, and Alhaji Mohammed Bulama.

The other members of the committee were; Alhaji Falalu Bello, lawyer Hajiya Aisha Dankani, Mr. James Magit, Alhaji Haruna Buhari, Mr. Jag Mulya, Alhaji Rabi’u Garba and Alhaji Umar Chikere.
