Borno: Gov. Zulum move against absentee medical director, doctors after midnight hospitals visit

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, of Borno state, ordered the immediate suspension of the medical director of Umaru Shehu Ultramodern Hospital and four absent doctors when they were supposed to be on duty.

GISTOK had informed that Governor Zulum, on Tuesday morning, made an unannounced visit to the State Specialist and the Umaru Shehu Hospitals, both in Maiduguri

The governor visited the facilities between 1 and 2 in the morning only to discover that none of the doctors on duty at Umaru Shehu hospital was nearby.

His exclusive media advisor, Isa Gusau, said in a statement that even doctors living within hospital staff units did not respond to several phone calls.

The statement issued on Wednesday explained that: “Governor Zulum ordered the suspension of the medical director of Umaru Shehu Hospital, Dr. Audu Usman, for his failure in leadership.

“The doctors affected include Dr. Musa Chuwang and Dr. Chijioke Ibemere, who were absent while on duty were also suspended.

“Dr. Baba Ali Malawi, who was the second to call, was suspended for his inability to answer phone calls during the governor’s visit.

“At the same time, the frantic attempt to communicate with him was impossible to even when he lives inside the doctors’ rooms located around the hospital.

“Similarly, Dr. Esther of the Department of Pediatrics, who was supposed to be on duty, was found absent and also suspended. “All doctors attached to the accident and emergency unit should be consulted for their absence and lack of toaster service.

“The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Administration Board of the State of Borno is directed to comply with the governor’s directive while he must take measures to ensure that all gaps are filled.

“Governor Zulum is determined to ensure that all hospitals throughout the state of Borno provide adequate medical care at all times.”
